Choosing a programme
Where to start
If you intend to practise acupuncture as a profession, the Acupuncture & Meridians diploma is the correct route. It runs over three years part-time and includes supervised clinical practice with members of the public. Adding Chinese Herbal Medicine allows you to prescribe as well as needle, which is how the two halves of 针药 — needle and herb — are traditionally practised together.
If you already work with your hands, or want to, Tui Na is a one-year certificate that stands on its own. It is also a sensible first step if you are unsure whether a three-year commitment is right for you.
If your interest is personal rather than professional, start with Chinese Health Literacy. It assumes no prior knowledge, runs for eight to ten weeks, and is the programme we recommend to anyone who wants to understand Chinese medicine before deciding what to do about it. Diet & Lifestyle Therapy covers the yang sheng tradition of food and daily habit.
Not sure?
We would rather have a conversation than take an application for the wrong programme. Book a place at an open day or contact the college office, and we will tell you honestly which route fits — including if the answer is that none of them do.
